Kuala Lumpur, December 5, 2011 – ABB, the leading power and automation technology group has launched the IRB 460 which is the world’s fastest palletizing robot for the Malaysian market. The latest entrant completes ABB’s robot-based portfolio of packaging automation solutions, inducing greater innovation and automation in the manufacturing sector.
The robot was unveiled today by Pauli Järvinen, ABB’s Region Division Manager, Discrete Automation and Motion, South Asia, at the Company’s headoffice in Subang Jaya, Selangor. Other robots for packaging application showcased at the launch included:
1. The IRB 360, a high-speed primary packing robot which offers superior performance.
2. The IRB 260 which houses all the necessary features for placing items in boxes, tray handling and more.
3. The IRB 660 robot which blends speed, reach and payload like no other.
Designed to help manufacturers optimize equipment, cell layout, floor space usage, work flow efficiency and flexibility, ABB’s robots create value by eliminating human error apart from reducing handling accidents, environmental impact and losses. An excellent alternative to manual operation, robots provide manufacturers with efficiency, consistency, reduced piece price, minimized risk and improved control of operations.
“We are excited about the enormous potential of the IRB 460 which combines quality, speed, reliability and flexibility for total performance satisfaction. A natural fit to ABB’s extensive range of robots for packaging automation, the IRB 460 will enable ABB to achieve full scale penetration into a multitude of packaging application including food and beverage, chemical, automotive, electrical and electronic, solar as well as plastics, providing an impetus for our long term competitiveness in Malaysia,” Järvinen said during the launch.
“Given the vast potential for innovation and automation in the country’s diverse manufacturing sector, ABB’s extensive robot-based packaging solutions will provide local manufactures with the competitive advantage of addressing growing complexities and sophistication in today’s global manufacturing environment,” he added.
A world leading manufacturer of industrial robots and robot systems, ABB operates in 53 countries, in over 100 locations around the world. It has the market’s widest range of robot-based packaging automation, including specialized robots for picking, packing and palletizing to meet the demands of most packaging industry applications.
“With the new IRB 460, we will be able to offer a rich collaboration of ABB’s innovative products at competitive prices to help Malaysian-based manufacturers meet the productivity, quality as well as international environment, health and safety standards which form some of the pre-requisites for market access into developed countries,” Järvinen continued.
Demand for packaging solutions in the manufacturing sector is poised for exponential growth in line with the 10
th Malaysia Plan and this will to augur well for ABB’s robot-based portfolio which is not limited to the food and beverage and chemical sectors, but also any other manufacturing process which requires consistent, efficient and hygienic packing. In this regard, the IRB 460 is expected to contribute 15% growth to ABB’s robotics business in Malaysia by 2015, positioning the Company as a leading player in the industry.
“The launch of the IRB 460 is a significant milestone for us. I’m confident that the right balance of functionality, quality, reliability and flexibility afforded by ABB’s complete packaging automation solution will have a profound impact on the local market in the years ahead,” he concluded.
